Nerd War! #4
It’s a Nerd War! To reiterate Nerd War is our competition of who should be named best Marvel character of 2011! Each week one of us will nominate a character and give you a summary of their origins, love interests, and personality. The person who nominated the character will be on the For side for the character to go through, where as the other person will be against! This is a debate – and only the best will survive! It doesn’t matter if the character is good or evil, human, mutate, alien, mutant or the Juggernaut. They just have to be a Marvel Character. But with loads of characters, it might be a long wait before we get to round two .
This week’s nomination by X2 is Jean Grey Summers (not as the Phoenix).
Origin: Jean Grey was born in New York, to John Grey and his wife Elaine Grey, she was their younger daughter. When Jean was 10 years old, she was playing with her best friend Annie Richardson, when Annie was hit by a car. The emotion that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own latent telepathic powers and she experienced Annie’s own emotions as she died. This traumatic event left Jean in a withdrawn and deeply depressed state. Moreover, Jean discovered that she could not control her newly awakened telepathic abilities and had to isolate herself from other people, to keep hold of her sanity. When Jean was eleven a psychiatrist recommended to her parents, that they enroll her in Xavier’s School for the gifted. Where the mutant telepath Professor Charles Xavier, shut down her latent telepathic abilities, to preserve her sanity.
Love interest: There’s only really one man who has a place in Jean Grey’s heart – Scott Summers – though now he’s currently in a relationship with Jean’s rival Emma Grace Frost. Oh, and of course there’s that feral, Wolverine, to think about!
Does having no personality count? Let’s say, her’s is like a stick of dry celery…
Powers and abilities: Since we’re assessing Jean, while she’s not the Phoenix, we’ll assess her normal mutant powers. Jean Grey is a powerful psychic in her own right, but when she’s compared to the likes of Professor X, Emma Frost and the Shadow King, she seems pretty crap! But, she has her amazing telekinesis to make up for that. Jean’s telekinetic power is so strong, she can lift over twice her body weight! Oh, and should we care to mention that she’s an Omega Level mutant
and most favoured host of the Phoenix?
|X2’s Opinion: For||X1’s Opinion: Against|
|Jean, the wise one, it doesn’t feel right: the fact she’s not alive. Jean Grey plays an important role in Marvel, almost always being the center of attention. She’s quite bland but hey! That’s the way she was made. I don’t know if you have noticed but she has gotten quite a lot of male attention: Scott Summers, Wolverine, Angel and Professor X … YES I KNOW *Shivers* There definitely must be something special about her if she can get so many men to like her (especially with that bland personality) She is quite a boring character which has interesting story lines to spice her life up. How can you not call her amazing she resurrected many times, because the Marvel producers knew she was too important to kill off the comics. She has been dead for 7 years, but knowing Marvel they will bring her back. Jean Grey is a good telepath but compared to others she is not that good, however her telepathy is amazing. Jean Grey is a strong character who would never lose hope. Jean Grey has many downfalls, but she is very intelligent in which the way she acts. I think Jean deserves to go to the next round based on her power level and her story.||The moment that I found out that Jean Grey was being nominated, I had my against side completely decided! I HATE Jean Grey!Yes, yes, she is the “wise one”, but we all know that her rival Emma Frost is much more wiser than her. I admit, that men are all after the spicy ginger, but none of those relationships really ever lasted or meant anything. Just ask Emma Frost, whose currently hooking up with Jean’s widower. But WAIT! – Jean Grey did have one of the best “deaths” EVA! The whole Dark Phoenix saga was amazing! I have to admit that, but that “committing suicide on the moon” was brilliant. So she does have to get some points there from me, and they pretty good Phoenix Endsong Saga! But, we’re not judging Jeanie as Phoenix, we’re judging her as herself! We all have to admit that she’s one powerful telekinetic, and a slightly crappy telepath. The only reason why her telepathy greatly increased, was because she swapped powers with Psylocke (Jean lost her telekinesis while Pyslocke gained it and sacrificed her telepathy). So of course her telepathy would become better, but she had to undergo secondary mutation to get her TK back, while Psylocke’s TP came back naturally. And of course Jean doesn’t have a personality. So, she don’t deserve to go through to the next round.|
X1: For – 4; Against 6
X2: For – 6; Against – 5
And Jean Grey, does not make it through to the next round! YESS! 😀
